A very expensive lens, but the initial reviews and samples show this is Canon’s sharpest 85mm to date. Is this the first hint of an upcoming super-high resolution EOS R mirrorless camera?
I would say this lens and the 50mm F1.2 are both indicators of the future of the Canon RF mount. Their game has always been top glass. When you consider how some of their L lenses that are 10+ years old still hang in there with lenses that have been released in the last 5 years, shooting on inferior sensors, well, it’s safe to say they know how to engineer a lens. This is still too much for what I do, but I am going to be drooling over it and the 50mm for a long time. I would think the camera that would have been the 5DsR mkII will instead be a mirrorless RF mount camera, and that is the camera these lenses are going to shine the most on.
