Now that I have a 5D on the way, I’m looking at these Sigma primes more seriously. Loved my 50mm F1.4 Sigma on the 80D, but I think on the 5D I will want the 85mm F1.4 and the 24mm F1.4. Man I wish I had the cash to get one of those (probably the 24mm first, it will fill a gap I have and want to fill), but right now I have it all tied up in the 5D. Que Sera Sera, there is always next time! That 135mm is also a tasty looking lens.

Never been too impressed by Sigmas zooms though, AF performance is jsut too inconsistent. If you want a zoom that is priced below the Canon models but also delivers performance I would suggest the Tamron G2 series. Big steps up from the previous models, and AF is pretty good. I like to point out to people how the Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 G2 is right around the same price as the Canon 70-200mm F4L IS II. For the money, the Tamron is probably a better deal, unless you jsut have to have the Canon (also a great lens).

I’ve had not just good but incredible good luck with Sigma’s zooms. In particular, their 18-35 and 50-100 (but wish this one had stabilization) have been phenomenal lenses that rivals primes.

I don’t doubt the IQ the lenses can produce, and those both have been said to be as good as a prime. I doubt the AF performance. Plenty of reported issues of people having both front and back focusing issues with Sigma zooms, but not everyone will have the same needs or experience with the lens. For my taste, I would rather take a pass, preferring to use Sigma primes and Canon fast zooms for what I need. Glad you are having a good go at it with your lenses, if it works for you then that is all that really matters.

Really wish Canon would match that design, but I don’t think it will happen. I would think since the EOS R can use EF-S lenses and also has that crop in 4K that Canon would want to make some serious EF-S lenses for video. An STM 18-35mm F1.8 would be killer. Probably not as sharp as the Sigmas but still sharp, and likely have a build similar to the 18-135mm nano-USM, maybe even IS. One can dream!
