Hot: 5D Mark III (Import / Grey Market) for $1999, GetItDigital via eBay

This is the price drop we’ve all been waiting for: Get It Digital via eBay has the Canon EOS 5D Mark III for $1999.99. This is the new lowest price that we’ve seen yet on this camera, $150 below the previous low of $2149!

This is likely an import, as Get It Digital via eBay is not an authorized dealer. As a result, a Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed (the store provides a warranty instead). Historically Canon USA has provided warranty service on grey market bodies anyway — but this is at the discretion of Canon USA, and can change at any time.

Although this retailer has been a reliable eBay seller based on eBay feedback and reader feedback, we will caution that they have recently attempted up-sell calls (asking you to upgrade to a USA model). Stay firm and insist that they process your order at the $1999 price, there are no physical differences between import models and USA models, even though they may attempt to convince you otherwise.

UPDATE: As usual, the grey market vs. USA model debate! You can read our FAQ on the topic here.

UPDATE 2: 337 sold during this sale, and still counting. This is now one of the most popular 5D Mark III deals in the past year.

Wow! I paid $400 too much for the ebay black friday deal. How low can it go! Such a great camera, so well worth it 🙂

Ain’t junk, but if you want go ahead and pay $500 more for USA version just to get what? Oh, a 1 year warranty, that’s all..for $500 bucks. Same exact camera. Seriously, I bought the import model off ebay, and received a USA model. Registered it and good to go. A lot of folks report the same, but if you do get an import, no real loss other than a 1 year warranty that Canon will probably honor anyway. When was the last time someone had to send back a 5DM3 to Canon? Calculated risks…Sometimes you just have to take a chance in life 🙂

    2. February 18, 2015 at 3:24 pm EDT

It’s the exact same camera as you’ll get from an authorized retailer.

    3. February 18, 2015 at 4:17 pm EDT

Same warranty, serviceable if necessary in the USA ?

      Doubt it

    2. February 18, 2015 at 9:44 pm EDT

Already have a 4k Canon. It’s called the C500. If you’re talking about a 4k DSLR than it’s possible, but they’re likely to push it off as long as possible… to avoid hurting market share of their other products.

In the last 4 months I’ve bought both a 5DIII and a 6D from GetItDigital. They are good folks. I’ve been buying both USA and gray Canon product since the early 80’s, from many sources, and never had any issues. I also work my gear to death like the tools they are. Cosmetically they still look great but by the time I’m done the curtains and mirrors are shot.

  14. February 17, 2015 at 11:05 pm EDT

Grey market is not JUNK !!! It it the exact same stuff sent to the U.S. And everywhere else.

If you’re on a tight budget, grey market items are fantastic– I pulled the trigger on my 5D3 on Black Friday 2012, when eBay had a (then) amazing price on it of $2886 (it was still $3500 retail at the time). However, I will caution everyone to be careful regarding WHICH VENDOR they go through on eBay. Some sites (Such as the place I purchased mine from) have horrible customer service/reputations, while other grey market vendors have top notch ratings across the board.

  23. February 18, 2015 at 10:16 am EDT

I purchased one in December. Since day one the serial number sticker was coming off because they switched it out. When I connected to shutter count app from desire studios on Mac the serial number was completely different than the one on the sticker. I tested my girlfriends t3i and hers was a match. The camera still worked just fine but was harder to sell.

      See, THAT Sucks …..

    2. February 18, 2015 at 5:52 pm EDT

Yea it does, but it is finally gone and now I have the fuji X-Fujifilm X-T1! Much smaller though, need a battery grip and better lenses.

Any thoughts on this kit for $2689? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-Canon-28-135mm-3-Lens-16GB-Camera-Kit-NEW-/140988017961?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20d38a6d29. I was wanting to get the 28-135 lens with this, but not sure why their “kit” with just the lens and body is more expensive than this full kit. I’m assuming the extra stuff is just junk that I wouldn’t use, but still cheaper than the combined kit of body and lens.

      February 18, 2015 at 9:45 am EDT

You are much better off buying the body for $1999 and that lens for $250 (if even), then putting the difference towards better quality accessories.

That 28-135 lens is for crop sensor cameras and not full frame. Don’t buy.

        Wrong

    3. February 18, 2015 at 2:34 pm EDT

I had mistakenly thought this was the 24-105. Yes. I will not be buying this. Thanks for the advice.

        February 18, 2015 at 3:36 pm EDT

Yes, the 28-135mm is only worth ~$200-250.

      February 18, 2015 at 4:07 pm EDT

That kit has every cheap accessory imaginable. I really don’t like it when merchants do that. As the CPW admin notes, much better to order the camera body alone. These accessories are just used to pad their profit margins.

A correction from me: the 28-135 is indeed an EF lens and will work on FF; however, it is an inexpensive lens. I was confusing this with the 18-135 crop sensor lens, which incidentally is generally a higher rated and more expensive lens than the 28-135.

When is 5d mark 4 coming out? Must be soon…

    1. February 18, 2015 at 5:51 pm EDT

The 5dS and 5dsr will be coming in June. With that I would imagine the mark 4 would take a while.
