if you had to guess, when would we see another restock on refurb lenses?
Likely not until after the sale is over on December 20th, but that is only my guess. Typically we only see one restock major per week; we’ve seen two and this is a two week sale.
what about this “12 days of christmas” sale going on and it stacking with the 15% off.

Their 12th day deal is today and tomorrow only, yes it stacks, but I doubt we’ll see a restock today or tomorrow.
Just like how they restocked the sale a day before the extra stacking during the Thanksgiving week sale, it’s probably NOT a coincidence that they restocked the entire store yesterday (during the higher prices) and not today. It already sells out in five minutes at the existing discount, why would they sell things for less?
I should add that everything in my previous statement is conjecture and the Canon Direct store is free to do silly things like restocking 70-200 IIs at $1395 (today’s price) if they wish.
This one is on my *want* list!
yum… I’d love to see a sale price on the 50mm 1.2 from canon! The 35 1.5 ART might be an awesome alternative though.
50mm f/1.2 – $1239 AR.
What is the regular price for this lens? I might have to charge it and pay myself back after my spring bonus. Haha
The 1.2 is usually over $1500.
Regular price is $1549; there’s currently a $150 mail-in rebate that expires January 3rd, so current walk-in price is $1399 AR.
So overall sh arpness, Canon 50 1.2L, or Sigma Corporation of America 30, 35, or 50 1.4? I see they have an ART 30 1.4 for $499? Completely different built than the 35m Art 1.4 – how do these compare?
I only have experience with the 50mm Art 1.4, but I wanted to point out the 30mm Art 1.4 is an EF-S mount lens. If you’re using a full-frame body, a comparison would be moot.
Got my 50mm Art through CPW Street Price last month. A good deal, and I’m happy with it.
Sigma Art 30mm is a DC lens — for crop sensors only.
I hear really good things about the Sigma 50mm Art (especially vs. the 50L). $854 street price.
My local camera shop really pimps the Sigma brand, I really may go with that 50
I am shooting a wedding in January. I should rent the 50 Sigma and test it out
is this sharper comparing to 17-40 ?
I replaced a 17-40 with the 16-35 f4 IS several months ago and have used the 16-35 extensively. I find it to be noticeably sharper edge to edge, even stopped down to f/8 to f/16 which is where I shoot with it most of the time for landscapes. I particularly notice the difference in edge detail and sharpness for things like leaves on trees that are somewhat distant from the camera position.
IS is also a great advantage for the 16-35 versus the 17-40 when shooting handheld. I can generally get tack sharp images handheld at a shutter speed of 1/4 second across the focal range of the lens, or even slower when braced. It is very handy to be able to get good handheld shots at f/8 to f/16 in low light without pushing ISO through the roof.
I thought the pricing on this lens was very reasonable compared with relatively recent Canon zooms like the 24-70 f/2.8 ii and am surprised to see it discounted this quickly. I thought if anything the price on it might creep up once word got around on how good it is.
@ Andy; yes sharper and faster as reviewed by my favorite reference The Digital Picture: ” I find the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens to be at least slightly sharper in the center at all apertures (including f/2.8 vs. f/4) and focal lengths. At 35mm, they are very similar.Because the 17-40 corners are darker at comparison apertures wider than f/5.6, care must be taken to differentiate between differences in corner sharpness vs differences in vignetting. ” http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-16-35mm-f-2.8-L-II-USM-Lens-Review.aspx

Bought a 16-35 F/4 IS. Superb optics and reviews from everything I read and I do not shoot in low light very often so should be a great lens.
Even if you shoot handheld in low light, the IS (Canon claims 4 stops and it’s at least 3+) will easily trump the 1 stop disadvantage in maximum aperture versus the 16-35 f/2.8 ii, which doesn’t have IS.
Kristina Fulton that 35mm 1.4 would be killer
Thanks for all the help, CPW! now I have the 16-35 f4, which looks to be an excellent lens. That takes care of my underwater needs and for wide angle and both will do well topside! Now to hide behind a bush and wait for the elusive 70-200 f2.8 IS – feel like we’re in a Bugs Bunny cartoon!
Nice! BTW, which underwater housing are you using (and which camera?)
And wow, 8-15L and 16-35mm f/4L in the same week.
I use a Nauticam housing, ports and Inon strobes on a 7D. Currently I am using the Tokina 10-17 (favorite lens) and Canon 10-22 with a +2 diopter for WA. The L glass I can use now but is in preparation for a future full frame. If you value your checkbook, stay away from underwater photography!
Hi. Sorry to sound ignorant. Will someone help me clarify this. I keep hearing street price. What does cpw mean by that ?
