Super Hot: 5D Mark III + 24-105mm for $2899 (Import) eBay Frenzy!

The hottest 5D Mark III deal ever: ElectronicsValley via eBay has the Canon EOS 5D Mark III with EF 24-105mm f/4L IS Kit for only $2899.99. This is the lowest price we’ve ever seen on a brand new (import) kit. The previous low was $3080 during Black Friday 2013. This is today’s eBay Frenzy deal.

A white-box 24-105mm typically goes for $600, so this is like getting a 5D Mark III for only $2299 — an incredible price.

Who is ElectronicsValley via eBay, and are they reputable? Some sleuthing shows they are the same company as BigValueInc, an unauthorized dealer who has been a source of reliable deals over the last few years. They have a 98.9% feedback score on high-value Canon items.

This is an import version (physically identical to the US model, but not intended for the US market). A Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed, so the store provides a warranty instead. Compare with our street price of $3299 AR from an authorized dealer. Transactions on eBay have been generally safe as you can rely on eBay Protection, PayPal Protection, and credit card protection.

Too cheap to be true? Are they gonna force you to buy much expensive battery,or other accessories? That’s what we hear from such sellers.

It’s via eBay so they don’t have the chance to upsell you, and you have eBay Protection + PayPal Protection.

BigValueInc is a reputable and reliable unauthorized dealer.

Do import models qualify for CPS?

    1. September 16, 2014 at 12:36 pm EDT

Again, CPS doesn’t state their policy on this and can change at any time. But our readers report that they have been successful in registering both import and/or used purchase items for CPS.

      1. September 17, 2014 at 10:57 am EDT

I have had no problems registering import and used items (at least 5 of them) with CPS.

Import models don’t even have a warrantee in the US

    1. September 16, 2014 at 12:32 pm EDT

Read the post — a Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed (current policy is for Canon to service import bodies, but this can change at any time). The store provides an 1 year store warranty.

    2. September 16, 2014 at 1:23 pm EDT

Who cares. It’s $1000 off the MSRP. The seller is reputable and has a 1 year warranty of their own. After the 1st year it’s doesn’t make a difference where the camera or lens came from anyway.

    3. September 16, 2014 at 1:39 pm EDT

Yes, and it’s $400 lower than our authorized dealer street price. For $150 you could purchase 3rd-party warranty coverage and still have $250 left to spare.

No good! GH4 cost half the price and 4 times better (resolution wise)

    1. September 16, 2014 at 2:05 pm EDT

Maybe 4 times better for video, but not for any other shots.

    2. September 16, 2014 at 2:07 pm EDT

Oops, that’s what I meant, for video it is a better choice.

    3. September 16, 2014 at 3:16 pm EDT

Actually for pictures it’s better too!

  6. September 16, 2014 at 2:08 pm EDT

6d is better. Get a cam and a lens for that price.

thanks for the heads up, but I did some investigating and the Import model is no covered by any warranty in the US. it’s better just to get the USA Model and have protection. thanks anyways Evan Halleck <3

    1. September 16, 2014 at 3:06 pm EDT

The store actually provides the 1 year warranty. If it breaks the store will send it to an authorized Canon repair facility for repair or replacement. They aren’t the only one doing this, ie 6thAve.

    2. September 16, 2014 at 3:21 pm EDT

A Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed (current policy is for Canon to service import bodies, but this can change at any time). The store provides an 1 year store warranty. Given the large $400 price difference vs. an authorized dealers (our street price on authorized dealers is $3299 after the $200 MIR), you can purchase a 3rd party warranty and still be ahead.

    3. September 17, 2014 at 11:14 am EDT

Nah I’ll spend more money for peace of mind….that’s priceless.

    4. September 17, 2014 at 12:48 pm EDT

Yes, authorized dealers sell this for $3299 (after a $200 MIR). Some people prefer to save $400, other people are okay with paying more to get it from an authorized dealer. I’m glad we get this choice!

you should always have inssurance on your gear anyways. Theres a ton of stuff the factory warranty doesnt cover. Such as theft, or if you lose it.

They are all made in the same factory and it’s not in USA.

Jan Barbas, do you subscribe to this page? I like this package right here. Nice! I’d buy it in a heart beat were I in the market.

  17. September 17, 2014 at 9:35 am EDT

I think we have a 5DIV on the horizon.

  18. September 17, 2014 at 10:03 am EDT

Where do you recommend purchasing a 3rd party warranty? Skeptical with these “too-good-to-be-true” deals. Non USA warranty/Import model is unsettling, there must be a reason for the cheap price?

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      September 17, 2014 at 10:29 am EDT

SquareTrade is a big name in the third party warranty business.

You hit the reason why it’s priced so low: these are import from another region and customers like yourself are wary, as the warranty is iffy (although reports are Canon still will service grey market bodies under warranty).

The things to keep in mind are: this is a fairly reputable unauthorized dealer, this is an eBay sponsored frenzy deal, and eBay has great protection to ensure you get what you paid for. I wouldn’t do a purchase like this outside of an eBay or Amazon platform.

I got the following very positive feedback from a reader about this purchase. This deal was a legit and fantastic deal!

“Approximately a week ago you guys posted about the deal on ebay for the canon 5D mark III with the 24-105L lens for $2,899. I bought one of these kits and would like to give you my feedback since there were many people that had their doubts. The camera arrived about 3 days later. I immediately checked if the serial on the box, camera and EXIF matched. Everything matched up. I then bought the EOS inspector app since I read some people were afraid of getting used cameras. The shutter count was 5, and I had just taken 5 test shots so that confirmed the camera was new. Another thing people feared was that it would be missing original accessories like the canon batteries or that they would be swapped with 3rd party batteries. The battery was the original canon, along with the original charger, strap and all cables. The lens date code was March 2014, so a recently built lens. There was NOTHING wrong with the gear, everything was new and working. I registered both the camera and lens to the canon USA website without any issues. So all in all i got a very good deal, and even got $58 from the ebay bucks program. Thanks for posting this!”
