Street price for 7d2!? C’mon it’s been like an hour since it was officially announced!
Should have made it full frame and it would have been golden! Monica Olson
Had it been a full frame it would have been a 6D II, and they are still squeezing the value out of that camera. I’m ready to see a 5D IV
Agree with you there Anthony. I am hoping they up the game so much on the next 5D that they just call it the Mark V. Nice homage to the old cartoon ya know.
Me toooo
This is a very large market for this camera with sports and action photographers that REALLY didn’t want it to be full-frame. If this thing maintains the added reach of the APS-C sensor with much less noise than the original 7D, they’ll be quite happy with it.
There is no added “reach” with a crop sensor camera versus full frame, there is a smaller field of view.
I’m with Matt. I don’t like the 1DX for that very reason. Put a 400mm on a 1.6 crop body and you have a 640mm lens without an extender and that extra stop loss you get from extenders.
No, a 400mm lens on a 1.6X crop factor lens doesn’t become a 640mm lens. It’s still a 400mm lens.
Do eyeglasses become more powerful in the center if you put black electrical tape around the outer 40% of the frames?
I always love seeing comments like this. Usually by people who don’t really understand math. The only way your math works is if you are talking a 20 MP crop sensor and a 51MP full frame, otherwise the math doesn’t quite add up the way you think it does.
Anthony, hopefully one day Canon will come out with a 10X crop factor camera and my 50mm f1.4 will become a 500mm f1.4!
Yup, if you take a 22MP (5D3) and a 20MP (7D2) with the same lens, you get 20MP (7D2) vs. about 14MP (5D3) on the same target. The end result is you can enlarge the final image considerably more without losing resolution. Call it reach, or pixels on target, or mojo – that’s why people still use their crop sensor cameras for distant subjects.
… What they said
Not only that, Jason. But it’s also going to have the ability to AF at f8. So you can put that 1.4 extender on there and get even more reach. Which wasn’t possible with the previous version. There’s nothing here though that would get me to switch from my 1d4.
If it were full frame with all other specs the same then it would cost a LOT MORE than $1800. Also, being APS C means that shorter and decidedly less expensive lenses can be used for activities such as sports and wild-life shooting. For example the 300mm F4, would be an effective 480mm lens on this camera.
No joke!
I am overjoyed the price is $1,799.00 and not the usual Canon madness of $2,299.00
Did I miss the expected ship date?
Looks to be November 17th.
Thanks! Glad I didn’t wait to buy it for my honeymoon. Would’ve been too late.
Just in time for winter high school sports
Personally, I am not in love with my current 7D (focus accuracy, low light performance, overall image quality). It’s the Canon that I have buyer’s regrets over… not sure I would want the II version of it, at least not without trying it first. Saving up for the 5D Mark III… or considering the 6D in the meantime. Full frame will give me much more flexibility for my work.
I have a 70d and 6d. The 6d is a much different animal than the 70d/7d
Robin, I have a 5DM3 and I also had a 7D for 4 years. The 7D was a faster camera. Focus was faster, FPS was higher. Focus accuracy was about the same. Image quality was solid on the 7D. Low light isn’t comparable due to the different processors.
In my opinion, the 7D provides more flexibility except for low light. If I posted two photos, one from the 7D and one from the 5DM3 both with the same lens, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference unless you looked at the EXIF data. I have to store my photos in separate folders to be able to tell which came from each camera.

$1799 isn’t actually too bad. Is there a kit with 17-55?
The only kit is the 18-135mm IS STM.
Andra i need more shoes! jk
Hahah!! Psh I need more shoes!
well FINALLY
Dawna Walker omg. I want
Why would anyone want a full frame 7D, that’s what the 1DX is for.
Loll
I wait until next sprint .
Adorama.com was saying November
November 17th is what Amazon says.
Where is the affordable 4k ?
Panasonic
Yeah i know about the GH4 i was meaning from canon
No 5D mark IV?
The rumor is first or second quarter of 2015.
This explains why the 7d is $500 instant off. Anyone with 7d experience & recommendations???
Loved the 7d. Wish low light high ISO was a bit better but… It performed well for me. Take a look
New battery? BIG BOOO!
The Canon website shows both the old and new batteries as accessories, so I assume they will still work.

Where’s the WiFi that they put in everything else??
The Magnesium alloy frame isn’t too conducive to having WiFi.
Doesn’t the 5D have that type body? The eye-fi cards are supposed to support that body. You would think Canon could make it work if they wanted to. But the price isn’t terrible for what they did decide to put in it.
70d has wifi. Surprised the 7d MK ii does not.
It’s so Canon can sell you the $850 WiFi adapter.
wohoo timelapse for the first time! from BH Photo “A built-in intervalometer permits the creation of time lapse imagery and supports recording 1-99 consecutive frames in pre-selected intervals.” What am I suppose to do w 99 frames?

Great for sports!

not bad
Still waiting for an answer to the D810
Unfortunately it’s nothing compared to the new Samsung NX1 which has tons more features and it’s $200 less:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/820617884649899/
7DM2 with an 18-135 costs around $2150.
The NX1 body is cheaper than the new 7D body, but Samsung is ready to empty your wallet with its very limited lens selection. The 50-150mm lens they’re producing will run for around $1500. If you get that with the 16-50 package, you’re looking at $4300.
Market obsolescence at it’s finest.
Hector Orellana…… I think imma upgrade to that son lol
Seems like I am better off with my 70D instead of a 7D. No full frame, only 20 MP? would have expected more out of a new Canon.
7d’s are suppose to be their crop sensor flagship camera. 7d will always be aps-c. But yes, it’s a weak upgrade
I seen Nov 28 on amazon..
It was November 17th this morning at Amazon.
Wow…finally! ! Time for a new camera; )
Ethan Harry Billy Charlie Dominick
Too bad it’s not a 6D mkII with 65 cross type AF points and a DPAF sensor. Hope Canon takes that into consideration with the next 6D model
Canon would probably call that a 5D Mark IV, and it would cost $3999 as an introductory price.
I just checked. Nov 28
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
6d>7dmkii all day
Tyler LaRiviere
Jenna DiMarcangelo-Hacker my camera??!!
Melissa Lallier Christmas is coming
Jerry Gomez Shor Jr.
Why can’t it be full frame? Because that’s not its intended market. A full frame made entirely of dual pixel and cross type points would be very expensive and people would still complain about lack of video gimmick features.
APS-C?…
Can we do a group buy thing on this? Or do we expect severe rationing to start.
We will try — won’t know for sure until we get closer to the availability date, and the stores get their stock.
Preordered mine on amazon. Cant wait for 7dmkii!!!
