eBay Frenzy: EOS-1D X for $4999, Import with 3 Year Store Warranty

AllNewShop via eBay has the Canon EOS-1D X for $4999.99. This ties the absolute lowest price we’ve seen for a new EOS-1D X. This is part of the on-going eBay Super Frenzy.

Note, AllNewShop via eBay is not an authorized dealer, but a reliable unauthorized dealer. In eBay deals over the last month, they’ve sold over 400 5D Mark IIIs and 50 1D-X through their eBay store (or their sister-store GetItDigital). They clearly state that this is an import model, which is physically identical to the USA model. Although Canon USA has been traditionally lenient in providing warranty service, a Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed. A three-year extended warranty is provided by the store.

The only two reader issues we’ve heard of in the last two months were: a case of someone being shipped the wrong item, and one defective item — both returns were handled cleanly by the store without issue. Even though this is a large purchase we think it can be a safe one if done with the triple-protection of eBay, PayPal, and credit card.

If you’d prefer a US model from an authorized dealer with full US warranty, please consider our street price of $6149 for the 1D X.

The eBay Super Frenzy continues all week, and we expect to see some great deals leading up to the holiday weekend.

They’ve also got the 5D3 for $2559 with a 3 year warranty. That’s getting harder and harder to say “no” to… http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-Digital-SLR-Camera-Body-Mark-3-MK-III-NEW-/301194152432

I have the 70D and love it and would LOVE to have the 5D3. The ONLY thing holding me back is AF in video for the 5D3. If it had DPAF like the 70D, I’d already have pulled the trigger and have my 70D up for sale.

All in all, is it a bad decision to buy from an unauthorized dealer? And what’s this I hear about 1dX II in the fall?

It’s not a bad decision when the price gap is as large as it currently is (about $1150 to our street price or $1800 to list MAP price) — just buy from a reasonably reputable unauthorized dealer, don’t have any expectation of Canon warranty (i.e. ensure you are happy with the store warranty or purchase a 3rd party warranty), and ensure you use eBay/PayPal/credit card protection where possible to mitigate any risk.

As for 1DX II — I stopped following the rumors long ago. 🙂
