In for one
Do you think this lens is better than canon 50mm 1.2L?
Why should anyone consider this lens over the Canon 50mm f1.4 at half the price?
Are you kidding me? It competes with Otus 55mm f/1.4 at 25% of the cost. You must be from Canon with that BS. Not going to work.
What BS? I asked a real question and you’re attacking me? GFYS if you feel the need to attack someone for asking a REAL question.
Exactly as David says — this lens competes more with the Otus 55mm in optical quality and build quality.
Sorry, but I’ll have to see test photos before I believe this lens is worth $950.

This lens beats canon 50L and is on par with Zeiss Otus at 1/4 of the price.
Can you comment on the USM autofocus issues with Canon 50mm F1.4 lens? There are some reviews that says its mechanically worse than the cheaper Canon 50 mm F1.8 lens.
Why should anyone consider the Canon 50mm f/1.4 when the 50mm f/1.8 is only a third of the price.
I already own the 35mm 1.4 from Sigma, which is…heavenly, paired on the wide end with the Rokinon 14mm, a thoroughly enjoyable lens. The 50mm would have to put out some serious performance versus the 35mm to get me to trade up. Thoughts?
It sounds like the focal length will be the determination for you. The Sigma 35 is a wonderful lens. The Sigma 50 seems as if it’s at least comparable and under normal use, you probably wouldn’t notice much of an IQ difference. If you use wide angles (which it sounds like) for landscape, then it comes down to focal length preference. I like my Rokinon 14mm. I love my Sigma 35mm. I never use my Canon 50 1.8 (ugh). I might consider the Sigma 50mm.
I suppose what I’d really want would be for this to be a 1.2 rather than a similar performer to my 35mm at a slightly longer focal length – better to invest in an 85 1.2, the holy trinity of 35/85/135 sounds a lot better than 35/50/135 – used 85 1.2s are going for about the equivalent of $250 more than this where I’m at in Japan.
$1000 for a 50? bring it 😀
I’m seriously considering using my tax return to preorder this bad boy.
