Amazon has the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM for $1699.00 (after $300 mail-in rebate). This is the cheapest price that we’ve ever seen for this lens. They’re also giving a 2% reward.
This is the latest in a series of double-dip deals that Amazon has been running for the last few weeks. If past double-dip deals are any indication, this price won’t last longer than a few hours.
I’ll also say that I’ve been predicting this deal for the last couple of weeks!
UPDATE: Sold out in 2 hours — these deals never last more than a few hours. Price is back up to $1999. Congrats if you got in on the deal!
Argh!!! Miss my 24-70 II!
though i don’t know much about it …it’s heavy….and so to the pocket…only professional photographer doesn’t mind….
What are the odds the 16-35mm L will be one of these weekend deals? I’ll be getting one if it pops up
Pretty good, I’d say. Set an e-mail notification on our website and we’ll let you know if we see it in-stock at that price.
I have one set already, but with the rebate that just came out I didnt get one. I modified it so hopefully I’ll get it next time. Thanks!
Yeah, our mistake — the mail-in rebate caught us by surprise and the notifications didn’t properly calculate the effect of the MIR for the first day (during the Best Buy sale). They do now, so you should be notified for anything going forward.
Sadly, this deal is now expired. As expected (and mentioned) it only last a few hours. You need to be quick with these ones.
Actually, it worked as of 10:15PM EST for me at DPReview’s GearShop which is owned by Amazon and ships from Amazon’s warehouse. You get 2% back in rewards as well. I checked and GearShop is part of Canon’s Authorized Sellers. EDIT: I just checked and even DPReview’s GearShop is back to $2299! Sorry folks
I got the lens for $1699, do you think they will honor that price or reject it saying that not available in the stock?
If you got your order in, they’ll fulfill it at that price. This wasn’t a price mistake, just a very short sale.
Oh, and congrats, you got in on a great deal.
Ty. Notification setup with canonpricewatch+ smart phone= always get the best deals. Kudos to this website.
Yes, CPW has been a great source of getting the latest notification on sales. Regarding this deal, this would have been EXCELLENT if we didn’t have to pay sales tax–that takes away some of the excitments.
I was lucky enough and got the deal. Amazon doesn’t require sales tax. So it really is $1699 out the door unlike the Best Buy deal
Lucky. Great deal, for $1699 no-tax.
Thankyou by the way!!
I got an alert from CPW and had been waiting for the right price to buy this lens. I can’t believe how fast they went!
I just happened to randomly check this site yesterday and I was able to get this deal. Thank you!!!
What is the best way to set automatic alerts for “random” price drops of Canon gear? I may not have thought to set an explicit alert for the 24-70 but I’m glad I happened to see it. Not quite $1699 out the door (you have to jump through rebate hoops) but still the best deal ever on this lens.
Congrats on getting in on deal!
If you go to our main page there’s a trio of buttons in a yellow box. If you sign-up using the ‘Notify’ button you’ll get an e-mail with every deal post we make. You can also subscribe via RSS (if you use an RSS reader) or follow us on Twitter or Facebook.
Signed up now… my eyes must have skimmed right over that yellow box. Thanks!
I totally meant “when all is said n done” and it came out wrong. But totally what I meant.
I too lucked out but via Amazon owned DPReview’s GearShop. I missed Amazon’s deal by minutes and then checked DPR and it was still on. They were running a promo for $50 off either a lens or camera if you setup a gear list and I was able to get mine for $1949 shipped without tax. That and 2% back, just like Amazon for a future purchase.
Tnx for sharing
I need a 70-200 f2.8 II stat!!!!
Amazon just posts and will say “out of stock”. That price is too good to be true.
I know of at least one person who got their shipping confirmation yesterday. This was a real sale.
BTW how long does the Canon rebate typically take? 3 months? And are they typically good about following through with them? I stumbled upon some reviews of many people that never received theirs. :/
Thankyou
Hi JC, ever since Canon switched to the new rebate processor (the one that gives AMEX cards) the response time has been much better. If you follow some of the threads at POTN, you’ll see that people have been getting the rebates after 4-5 weeks: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1297996
I was able to score this deal even after it had expired. Happy
