Double Dip: EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM for $749 AR at B&H

B&H Photo Video has the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM for $749.00, after a $150 mail-in rebate. Adorama also has it at same price.

Proceed to checkout to see this discount.

This is first time a double dip deal on this lens has appeared at B&H or Adorama. The best deal we’ve ever seen on this lens was over Black Friday weekend with $725 after rebate deals at BuyDig via eBay and Amazon.

Active L-Lens Deals, and Double Dips Explained

Here is a summary of all active L-lens deals, after mail-in rebates. Many readers have found these “double dip discounts” confusing, so we try to answer some of the most commonly asked questions in this post.

What’s a double-dip deal? A double-dip deal is one where the store gives an instant discount equal to the amount of the mail-in rebate. So you get one discount from the store, and then another discount from the mail-in rebate, which effectively doubles it. For example, the 70-200 II has a normal price of $2199 ($2499 less a $300 mail-in rebate), but B&H currently has provides an extra $300 savings, so your final price is $1899 ($2199 less a $300 mail-in rebate).

I don’t see the discount! You need to add to cart and proceed to checkout to see the discount. Stores hide these discounts to not run afoul of Canon’s Minimum Advertised Price rules. Canon doesn’t want pricing wars (like the one that recently erupted on the EOS 6D).

Are you sure it’s still eligible for a mail-in rebate? Yes, as long as you purchase from an authorized dealer (such as B&H, Amazon, or Adorama) you will get your mail-in rebate. Double-dip deals have been running sporadically since the end of September, and many of our readers have already successfully purchased, submitted rebate claims, and gotten reimbursed.

Are Canon mail-in rebates reliable? Yes, very. Canon switched its rebate processor a few years ago and recently we’ve heard very few complaints about the rebate process. Many readers report receiving rebates in 3 weeks or less and you can even request your rebate balance be transferred to your bank account rather than deal with the AMEX rebate card.

How long will these deals last? The mail-in rebate period ends on January 4th, 2014, but these extra double-dip discounts are provided by the stores and we don’t know when they’ll end. Our suggestion is that if you see the lens you want on sale, go for it: it’s doubtful we’ll see discounts beyond what we’ve seen, and the extended holiday return policies make it easy to get price adjustments in the unlikely event prices drop.

EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II for $1799 Now Matched at Amazon

Amazon has now price-matched the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II at $1799.00, after a $300 mail-in rebate. Again, this is the new lowest price that we’ve ever seen for this lens.

UPDATE: They’ve now also matched the deal on the 100L Macro for $725.00, and the 50mm f/1.4 USM for $279.

If Amazon charges tax to your state, you’re better off with the similar deal at BuyDig via eBay.

You see the discounted price of $2099 in your cart at Amazon, then you are eligible for the $300 mail-in rebate, and 4% rewards, bringing your net down to $1715.

The other two BuyDig via eBay deals, the 100L Macro for $725 and the 50mm f/1.4 USM for $279, are almost gone: 64% and 89% sold, respectively.

Hot Deal: EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS for $725 AR at BuyDig via eBay

BuyDig via eBay has the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM for $725.00, after a $150 mail-in rebate. This is the new lowest price that we’ve ever seen for this lens. BuyDig is an authorized dealer, and thus is eligible for the mail-in rebate.

Other authorized dealers have this for $899. The previous low price was an incredible double dip deal at $749. This is even lower than that!

We saw this deal accidentally start earlier today, but it was quickly stopped. This time, we think this deal is here to stay, until sold out — only 300 are available.

UPDATE: Amazon matched the $725 AR price.

EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM for $725 AR at BuyDig via eBay

BuyDig via eBay very briefly had the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM for $725.00, after a $150 mail-in rebate. This is the new lowest price that we’ve ever seen for this lens. BuyDig is an authorized dealer, and thus eligible for the mail-in rebate.

The auction was quickly ended, but you can still see the completed listing here. Three people managed to purchase this before it ended.

I expect that we’ll see this again real soon. This deal started at 12 PM ET, where as most Thanksgiving eBay deals start at 12 AM ET. Perhaps someone got PM and AM mixed up?

New EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM for $741.65 AR at Canon Store

This is probably a price mistake, but the Canon Direct Store has the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM for $741.65, after a $150 mail-in rebate. This is the cheapest price that we’ve seen for this lens.

We say it is a price mistake because, even though this is a new lens, it is receiving the 15% discount that refurbished lenses are currently getting.

The Canon store charges tax to almost all states. We feel there will be more opportunities soon for double-dip deals on this lens. To get e-mailed when these deals start, click here to set a notification.

Currently Active Double-Dip Deals on L-Lenses

Here is a summary of all the currently active double-dip deals on Canon L lenses. Double-dip deals are ones where the retailers have lowered their prices by the amount of the current mail-in rebate, effectively doubling it. Generally the prices (after rebate) are some of the lowest we’ve ever seen in the years that we’ve been running this site, and we don’t expect to see any discounts beyond this.

As with all previous double-dips these prices are after mail-in rebate, and only seen at checkout. Many of these deals are active at B&H, which also provides an additional 4% reward.
