The lens purchase must be made on the same day as the camera purchase — it may require coordination, especially if you have already pre-ordered, but it is definitely possible to do.

As our street prices are from authorized Canon USA dealers, this double mail-in rebate stacks with our already low street prices, resulting in some fantastic savings if you decide to purchase a EOS 5Ds or EOS 5Ds R and load up on lenses at the same time. We’ve heard some more info about the EOS 5Ds and EOS 5Ds R launches, from our usual reliable sources. Many USA dealers have received their bodies, but a sales embargo date prevents the cameras from being shipped out until Sunday.

It seems like Canon underestimated the interest in the more expensive EOS 5Ds R — we hear dealers received very few EOS 5Ds R, not enough to fill all pre-orders placed. Allocations in the EOS 5Ds are slightly better, but supply is far from plentiful.

We know of a few Canon authorized USA dealers who have EOS 5Ds bodies from their first allocation not yet spoken for, and available to ship out on Monday. Finally, we’ve also heard that Canon may be planning a special launch promotion featuring combo discounts when the new bodies are purchased together with top-end L glass. We’re still looking into this, and we’ll post more details as they become known.
