8mm f/3.5 Fisheye for Canon Wide Angle Lens

Today’s B&H Photo Video DealZone (one-day deal) is the Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye for Canon for $179.00. This is the lowest price we’ve seen yet on this value manual-focus lens.

Please note this is NOT the “HD” version of the lens. Thus, the lens hood is not detachable, and you will get an obstructed field of view on a full-frame camera. We recommend this lens only for crop-bodies (although it’s possible to modify your lens to work with a full-frame camera.) Check out this flickr group for sample photos with this lens.

Canon Rebate Changes for August 30th through October 3rd

As previously warned, the Canon rebate period ended yesterday, and we’ve seen some changes to the rebates. Here’s a recap of everything that happened at midnight:

The long-running mail-in rebate has finally ended. The lens mail-in rebates were not renewed, so there was an increase in the price of lenses as of today.

Canon started instant rebates on lenses. In most cases, however, the instant rebate is less than the expired mail-in rebate amounts (some are the same). So this is a net increase in price on most Canon lenses. We’re happy to see instant rebates (instead of mail-in) but unfortunately instant rebate promotions never seem to be as good as mail-in rebates. Our street prices do not yet factor in these instant rebates, we expect to have our street prices aligned within the next couple days.

Canon started a mail-in rebate on printers only. This mail-in rebate is the same value as before (up to $350, when you purchase printer + camera + paper). So the B&H and Adorama bundle deals or BuyDig 70D deal still live on, although B&H is now showing “back-ordered” again on printers.

The Creative Cloud + KelbyOne Promotion is still active and runs until October 3rd.

The mail-in rebates, instant rebates, and Creative Cloud promotion all expire on October 3rd. Barring any major surprises, we’re not expecting any price changes until then.

Canon just announced the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II. It features new “Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics” designed to reduce chromatic aberration. It’s available now for pre-order at a price of $1799 (B&H, Adorama, Amazon), much more than the Old 35mm f/1.4L (street price: $1179 AR) and the Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 (street price: $779). As with many of the latest generation Canon lenses though, the MTF charts look fantastic, we’re eagerly awaiting real-world performance reports.

In other news, Canon USA is also making available the Canon EOS M3 in the USA. It will be available for an introductory price of $679 (Adorama). Also available are the EF-M 11-22mm and EF-M 55-200mm.
