We’re surprised to see the refurbished RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM ($2064.65) and RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM ($1758.65) still in-stock at the Canon Direct Store. This is the first time the lenses have been available refurbished, and there is currently a 15%-off refurbished sale — both lenses have been selling briskly since they were first listed at midnight.

Refurbished lenses have a 1-year Canon USA warranty, and L-lenses come with all the expected accessories (caps, hood, and lens pouch) — purchase with confidence. The Canon Direct Store does collect tax, but even when adding tax this is still well below the best historic prices.
We’ve been told in the past that most refurbished lenses are store returns that have been re-qualified by Canon, so it’s likely they’ve built up quite the stockpile of refurbished inventory of these two lenses over the last year. It’s rare that they have so many copies available at once, so this is a great opportunity to buy before these refurbished lenses become scarce (and a game to find in-stock).
I got my 24-70 earlier today! A heads-up I had not thought of—if you have an Amazon Store Card, choosing Amazon Pay gives you an additional 5% credit on your Amazon account. So in effect I got almost another $100 off.
Great advice, thanks!
Does the chase amazon credit card count?
I don’t know. If that card normally pays a 5% rebate, you have it set up as a paying option in your Amazon account, and it shows up as one of the options for Amazon pay in your cart at the Canon Refurb Store, maybe.
I don’t think this is true.
“3% Back or 5% Back is not earned on (i) purchases from merchants using Amazon Pay, (ii) purchases made at international Amazon retail sites (including but not limited to Amazon.ca, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, or Amazon.co.jp), or any other website operated by Amazon”

Bummer, I know.
It looked like Canon was trying to sell the lens cap and hood and bag as accessories? Are we sure the refurbished lens comes with these things (hope so)
Click on the link; if you go to “What’s Included”, you’ll see this includes the caps, hood, and pouch.
ah ok yep.
If you use Rakuten for cash back, we got 2.5% back (even though the site says only 1.5% for refurbished).

My apologies, that’s good to know. Please feel free to delete my comment.
I called Canon rep to ask about loyalty program, turned out it’s stackable. Also to my surprise, the rep said since I was placing order for lens, they just need me report a lens serial number, so I used my old EF 50mm F1.8. So the 70-200 ends up with $1969.68 AFTER tax
Do you just need to own another canon lens?
Yes, or if you can ask a friend give you a serial number. Canon does not need you ship the old lens back to them. They just record the serial number.
Maybe you got lucky — I called, and after a lengthy (90 minute) hold, I was told that it only works if the serial number is of a defective lens (or one I no longer use). If it’s a working lens I can no longer get Canon or CPS service on it. I don’t have any lenses I’m willing to sacrifice.
Not willing to hold again for another agent.
How do I enroll in the loyalty program? I’ve an RF lens that was purchased some months ago and I recently bought an RF refurb lens. I’ve also have a very old Powershot canon camera lying around. Can I get loyalty discount for already placed order (RF refurb)?
No, it only works if you have a defective lens that you want to junk. If it’s a recently purchased RF lens, it won’t work as they won’t service it after they record your serial number.

Anyone have luck with their order shipping? I ordered one with one day shipping on Saturday and the order is still processing.
I ordered standard shipping and utter silence! Anyone else got shipping confirmation?
I am in the same boat, ordered with 30mins when this deal went live, and there were more thank 20+ in stock when I ordered. I only got a confirmation email the day I ordered, current status inventory fulfilled. But, no confirmation on shipping. I chose standard shipping. Not sure how long it’s going to take.
Even though I ordered relatively early (early morning hours after the initial notification came in) and the stock indicator showed 20+ in stock, my order has stalled so far at “Inventory fulfilled.” The charge showed up on CC activity at the time of purchase but it has disappeared since then. Is this the case of infamous Canon refurb phantom stock again?
The timing of it is a concern too: back in late July there was EF-RF adapter available for incredible discount, it was followed by Canon USA’s servers getting hacked. This time around, it coincides with Solarwinds breach. Not sure if Canon was one of its clients but given 80% of Fortune 500 companies were affected, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a result of part of the breach. I’m keeping a close eye on my credit card activities (which I already do but ramp it up).
I’m exactly in the same damn situation. Ordered very early on, like 30 minutes after I got the CPW notification. A pending charge appeared on my credit card but now nowhere to be found. Order status page is ‘inventory fulfilled’. When I called Canon couple days ago, they told me, “looks like the order went through and transferred to Warehouse (whatever that means!), you should receive an email with shipping confirmation shortly”… I’ll be beyond pissed if they cancelled or fumbled up the order.
Cpw – what your’s take on this whole situation? Is it always this way?
I have called canon to find out the status, I was told it is ready to be shipped (said will be shipped in next 24-48hrs and that was 3 days back) but will not arrive before Christmas. At this point I will be glad if they ever ship. Moreover the pending transaction on my CC is no more. Anyone else got shipping confirmation ?
Just received shipping confirmation for one of the two orders I’ve made on Dec 12. Both RF70-200, one is for my friend that I ordered 30 min after mine. Yet, they are sending the one intended for my friend. I just hope they are not assuming that I made duplicate orders by mistake.
I am glad they are shipping out. Even I received my shipping confirmation, should have my lens today. Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Just got a shipping confirmation for my refurb RF 70-200mm lens that I ordered on dec 11. Shipped today from IL and delivering tomorrow (west coast).
12/28 Just picked up the shipment from local Fedex shipping center. It was supposed to be delivered on Christmas Eve, but once it arrived at the local FedEx distribution center on the morning of 12/24, there had been no update. I found out by the details by calling the shipping center, not FedEx’s useless 1-800 number this morning. It was due to backlog of packages, and my shipment was never loaded on their truck. I told the person to set the box aside for me to pick up personally and that’s what I did.
Canon and FedEx have been behaving more like some seedy fly-by-night operation lately than a Fortune 500 company.
Hopefully, everyone here received their shipments and Happy Holidays!
