Unlike their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canonpricewatch.com\/blog\/2014\/08\/breaking-news-canon-price-drop-tomorrow-on-26-lenses\/\">September price drop<\/a> which was wide-ranging on 26 lenses, this price drop is very focused &#8212; only two cameras and two lenses &#8212; but they are the most popular ones.<\/p>\n<p>This is a permanent price drop, not an instant rebate or mail-in rebate. This is extremely unexpected, especially in the middle of the busiest time of the year for camera retailers.<\/p>\n<p>Below are the reductions in the <b>MAP<\/b> or (Minimum Advertised Price) that we&#8217;ll be seeing as of midnight tonight. This means a $240 drop on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canonpricewatch.com\/go\/Canon-Direct-Store\/EOS-5D-Mark-III\/u=127533\">refurbished 5D Mark III<\/a> and a $80 drop on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canonpricewatch.com\/go\/Canon-Direct-Store\/EOS-6D\/u=127586\">refurbished 6D<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canonpricewatch.com\/go\/Canon-Direct-Store\/EF-70-200mm-f2.8L-IS-USM-II\/u=127549\">70-200 II<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canonpricewatch.com\/go\/Canon-Direct-Store\/EF-24-70mm-f2.8L-II-USM\/u=127534\">24-70 II<\/a>, as if they weren&#8217;t rare enough already.<\/p>\n<p>We think the major reason for this price drop is due to competition from unauthorized dealers selling imports &#8212; as seen during the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canonpricewatch.com\/blog\/2014\/12\/full-frame-deals-wrap-up-black-friday-cyber-week-2014\/\">Black Friday \/ Cyber Week deals<\/a>, authorized dealers were unable to compete with imports, who were undercutting their prices severely.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exciting and unexpected news: we hear that Canon is instituting yet another permanent price drop tomorrow, December 11th.
